Campaigners launch new push to halt Brighton Hippodrome development

David Fisher gives the OBH case. Cllr Geoffrey Bowden asks where the campaigners have been for the past 10 years. A tired and silly argument as 10 years ago it was a bingo hall and for at least five subsequent years a scheme was being developed to restore it as a music venue, which ended when his council said there would be no late night licence. Then the retail/cinema scheme came out of the blue and OBH got moving.
'So all of a sudden these people have come out of the, er, ... woods (!) to object because someone has actually come up with some money...' Not a convincing statement. [It appears to have been edited to remove his question about where we were in 1965 when it ceased to be a theatre!]
Cllr Bowden is chair of the council's Economic Development and Culture Committee and so logically ought to be in favour of the economic and cultural argument in favour of the theatre. Why isn't he? We deserve to know.
